Stop Search from automatically doing a search first

How can I stop the search page from automatically doing a search right away before I enter any criteria?

Also can I stop the properties from showing at all on the Home page, or maybe just show the 4-6 newest listings?

Admin panel, settings section. Change "Search button 'Find' when selecting parameters"

New listings are shown on the homepage. The quantity can be fixed in Settings section of admin panel.

I actually want the find to be automatic when the user enters any search criteria, but I don't want the page when you first go to it to show all the listings.
I want it to wait until the user actually enters criteria and clicks on Find.

What determines if it is a new listing? My site has 12 listings and they all want to show on the front page. Once I load all my properties, I will have 1000's of properties and I don't want them all to show on the front page, so I'm looking for a way to just show one page, maybe 6 of the newest listed properties.
